Why everyone should own (at least) two parasol toys in World of Warcraft
You, like me, may have been vaguely underwhelmed when the very first parasol toys appeared in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. At first glance they looked pretty handy, until you realized they had a long cooldown, a limited duration in the air, and could only be deployed while you were standing on solid ground. (They also have a frustrating tendency to fail around elevator shafts.) While they were definitely better than nothing, the only reason to prefer one over the Hearty Dragon Plume was if you were either outside the Shadowlands without a glider, or knew you were about to be sent plummeting to your doom.
I’m here to tell you that has all changed.
Having long since tired of the drab black and purple parasols I picked up in gloomy Revendreth, I was quick to snatch up the first of the new series of Trading Post toys: the Delicate Silk Parasol. I of course had to test it out immediately, so I deployed it, hopped on a flying mount, and then leapt off once I was a decent distance above the streets of Orgrimmar. I enjoyed a delightfully scenic trip and landed gently, at which point my new parasol … didn’t disappear?
What sorcery was this?? I quickly mounted up and tried again, only to discover that it hadn’t been a fluke. My new parasol was infinitely redeployable, even in mid-flight. Hurriedly I whipped out my trusty black one and inspected it, only to find that it too had been upgraded. Not only that, but the duration is a full 15 minutes, and the cooldown is only 5.
Further testing revealed that both parasols were now deployable while falling, which means the next time you’re flying over a high-traffic quest area and get auto-dismounted (or you’re in warmode and someone pops a Qalashi Wingshredder), you can pull one of these out and glide to safety. Fellow Rogues will be happy to know that activating stealth no longer cancels the parasol’s slow-fall buff, and that despite appearances, they are completely invisible so long as you are.
But here’s the best part: while these, like most slow-fall items in World of Warcraft, do share a common cooldown, it’s 2 minutes shorter than that of each individual parasol. That means if you own more than one of these, you’ll be able to redeploy in as little as 3 minutes should you accidentally cancel the buff before you’re done with it.
…I still wouldn’t rely on them in elevators, though.
